Fatal house fire caused by electric blanket

A 91-year-old man died last night in a house fire that is believed to have been caused by an electric blanket.

A 91-year-old man died last night in a house fire that is believed to have been caused by an electric blanket.

Gardaí say the fire broke out at around 11 p.m. in a house in Glashabeg, Ballydavid, Co Kerry.

It's understood the man was in his bedroom when the fire started. Gardaí say his wife was in another part of the house that evening; it is thought she escaped unharmed.

A post-mortem will be carrried out on the man's body in Cork city later this afternoon.

A Garda investigation team are treating the death as an accident.
