A dairy farmer last night spoke of his relief after what has been described as a tornado ripped through his Eglinton farm on the outskirts of Derry causing structural damage to several buildings.

Fergus Kelly said that he and 10 farm workers had to run to safety after the tornado swept through his farmyard.

“We ran out of the shed and saw the tornado ripping through the fields. Roof trusses as well as pieces of tin and lumps of brick were hurled into the air.

“It was very scary for all concerned but thankfully no one was injured.”
