Farmer dies in slurry tank incident

A farmer died after falling into a slurry tank in Co Westmeath this afternoon.

A farmer died after falling into a slurry tank in Co Westmeath this afternoon.

The 56-year-old man was spreading slurry on his land when the incident happened. It occurred at Killare near Mullingar at about 1.20pm.

Neighbours removed the man from the tank and attempted to resuscitate him until the ambulance arrived.

He was taken to Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar where he was pronounced dead.

The incident is being investigated separately by the Health and Safety Authority and the gardaí.
