Athens - Greece's controversial widow, Ms Dimitra Liani, signed her blockbuster memoirs of life with the late Greek prime minister, Mr Andreas Papandreou, for dozens of adoring fans yesterday.

"I wrote the truth. I thank all those who embrace my book with love," she told reporters as she entered a central Athens bookshop for the signing.

The book, Ten Years and 54 Days, has sold more than 45,000 copies since going on sale 11 days ago, which makes it a best-seller many times over by Greek standards.

The former flight attendant's emotional account of life with the socialist leader has been panned by the Athens press and Ms Liani (42) has begged for understanding for her literary shortcomings.
