A Co Louth family was held hostage yesterday by a gang of four men who threatened them at gunpoint before making off with around €10,000.

Gardaí said the gang burst into the home of a businessman in Blackrock after his teenage daughter opened the front door yesterday morning.

The family were threatened with a sawn-off shotgun in a room while the gang ransacked the house.

The raiders escaped with the money in a dark blue Citroen-type van and no shots were fired.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the Blackrock area or the getaway car yesterday morning to contact them.
