Sixteen families were evacuated from their self-catering units in Mosney Holiday Village in Co Meath after fire broke out in a chalet block around 10.30 p.m. last night. No one was injured, but a security man who raised the alarm suffered smoke inhalation.

Units from Navan, Drogheda and Balbriggan fire brigades were called to the scene and quickly brought the blaze under control.

The 16 families were housed overnight in other sections of the holiday camp and will know today how serious the damage is to their personal belongings.

A spokesman for the company said families booked in for next week will not be affected.
