The Psychiatric Nurses Association of Ireland (PNAI) and SIPTU have agreed to defer further industrial action at St Vincent's Hospital in Fairview, Dublin. The unions held a half-day stoppage last week because of inadequate security for staff and patients at the hospital.

Another stoppage planned for this week has not taken place, following the appointment of the Garda Crime Prevention Unit to carry out a security audit. The unit has begun its audit.

A PNAI spokesman said further industrial action at St Loman's hospital in Palmerstown, Co Dublin, was also being deferred to allow both sides to meet at the Labour Relations Commission this week.
