An improvised explosive device found in Co Offaly has been made safe by an Army team.

An improvised explosive device found in Co Offaly has been made safe by an Army team.

The device was located during a search operation in an industrial estate in Tullamore this morning by gardaí.

The Army team arrived on scene shortly after 1pm, examined the device and rendered it safe.

The area was cordoned off but there was no need for a controlled explosion, an Army spokesman said.

The device has been removed for further technical examination. Any evidence found will be passed on to gardaí investigating the device, the spokesman added.
