One of the country's busiest Garda stations was evacuated today after an explosion in its boiler house.

One of the country's busiest Garda stations was evacuated today after an explosion in its boiler house.

Two workers were taken to the Mid Western Regional Hospital following the blast.

One of the workers was being treated for burn injuries which were described as not life-threatening.

The second man was assessed for smoke inhalation.

About 50 gardaí working in the station at the time were evacuated along with one prisoner who was in custody at the time. He was transferred to Roxboro Garda station.

Henry Street and other roads close to the Garda station were closed to traffic during the evacuation and motorists were asked to use other routes while fire fighters tended to the scene.
