Washington - The execution of a Paraguayan man was suspended last night pending a decision by the Governor of Virginia over whether to pardon the murderer. By 9 p.m. (2 a.m. Irish time) when Angel Francisco Breard (32) was due to be put to death by lethal injection in Greensville prison in Jarrat, Virginia, Governor James Gilmore had not announced his decision.Earlier, the Us Supreme Court refused to reconsider the sentence despite calls for a delay by the International Court of justice (ICJ) and US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
