Quito - Ecuador's highest court has sentenced the exiled former President Abdala Bucaram to two years in prison on separate counts of slandering political rivals. The eccentric Mr Bucaram had accused a prominent centre-left rival, Mr Alexandra Vela, in October 1996 of stealing documents and Mr Jaime Nebot, leader of the right-wing Social Christian Party, of corruption in January 1997.
