The son of a former Defence Minister, Mr Paddy Donegan, has been sent forward for trial on charges of having cannabis resin with intent to sell or supply by Drogheda District Court.

Mr Vincent Donegan of Bawntaaffe, Monasterboice, is also charged with possession of the drugs at Bawntaaffee, Monasterboice on May 28th 1995.

At the time gardai recovered 38 kilos of the drug with an estimated street value of £300,000. Two people were arrested.

Following legal argument, Judge Brennan granted an application by State solicitor, Mr Gerry Daly, to send the accused forward for trial to the circuit court in Dundalk on May 22nd. He sent him forward on his own bond of £1,000.
