Ex footballer on drugs charges Shamrock Rovers

RTE was refused bail by Circuit Criminal Court yesterday when he pleaded guilty to drug dealing

RTE was refused bail by Circuit Criminal Court yesterday when he pleaded guilty to drug dealing. John Bennett (27), of Rosemount Estate, Dublin 14, admitted having 300 ecstasy tablets for supply on February 2nd last. He was remanded in custody by Judge Cyril Kelly until May 17th.

Det Garda Denis Sheehan, of Stepaside, objected to an application for bail on the grounds that he believed Bennett would not appear for sentence. He told prosecuting counsel, Mr Colman Fitzgerald, that he had caught Bennett "red handed" on Military Road, Rathmines, Dublin, with 300 "ecstasy" tablets. Another charge of a similar nature involving 50 tablets was also pending against the defendant.
