Brussels - The European Commission denied yesterday it was drawing up plans to make study of the European Union compulsory in schools across the 15-nation bloc.
British newspapers said the Commission had listed more than 100 proposals for improved EU input into education and training, and the eurosceptic Sun tabloid said they amounted to brainwashing British children about the EU. The Commission spokesman, Mr Steve Morris, said the executive's aims in the education field were to promote best practice and material was only offered to teachers if they wanted it.
