THE EU was not threatening to remove Ireland's right to continue its policy of giving industrial grants throughout all parts of Ireland, the Tanaiste told Mrs Nora Owen.
She said the EU Commission was seeking to introduce a fairer, more transparent and legally balanced aid regime. With the cohesion countries reducing their share of state aid, the ability of wealthier states to give higher levels of aid could lead to unfair competitive pressures on less well-off members.
