Dublin, Limerick, Louth and Westmeath are among 60 regions identified by the President of the European Commission, Mr Jacques Santer, as areas of greatest need. As a result, they are to be included in the European Network of Employment Pacts aimed at encouraging a more strategic approach to job creation.

Each of the four designated Irish regions will receive £150,000 worth of technical assistance to help develop a transnational network.
