Addis Ababa - Ethiopia yesterday accepted an international peace plan to end its two-year-old border war with Eritrea.

The Ethiopian Prime Minister, Mr Meles Zenawi, issued a statement saying the peace plan drawn up by the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) was acceptable and had been approved by his cabinet.

The OAU plan calls for a cessation of hostilities and the establishment of a 25-km buffer zone inside Eritrea and along the disputed border, to be policed by a UN peacekeeping force.

Eritrea , which suffered a string series of military losses over the last month, has already accepted the peace plan, despite deep reservations.
