PARIS - A former member of one of ETA's bloodiest Basque guerrilla groups told a French court yesterday that he had become a monk and worked as a hospital priest to relieve sufferers.

Mr Philippe Saez (38), is on trial with five other suspected members of an ETA squad held responsible for 37 killings in 1978-1989.
