ANKARA - Turkey's pro-Islamist Prime Minister, Mr Necmettin Erbakan, backed off yesterday in his row with Turkey's powerful military over creeping Islamisation, promising to implement an army-backed plan to curb religious radicals.

A government spokesman said after a three-hour cabinet meeting that Mr Erbakan's government would fight religious extremism.
