ANKARA - Turkey's Islamist led government, buoyed by its defeat of opposition attempts to force a confidence vote, yesterday braced itself for a attempt by its secular to bring it down in a protracted budget fight.

The government of Mr Necmettin Erbakan survived a vote by 275 to 256 on Wednesday, heading off the no confidence motion over his moves to turn his country towards the Muslim world.
