SYDNEY - A senior Australian diplomat is to appear in court later this month charged with sex offences against children overseas, a foreign ministry spokesman said yesterday.

The diplomat will be charged under the Child Sex Tourism Act, which relates to offences committed against children overseas, the second Australian to be charged under the law which was introduced in 1994, a police spokesman said. The diplomat, who was not identified, had worked in south east Asia for many years, according to press reports.
