An Ennis man has appeared in court in connection with an alleged string of thefts from churches across Co Clare and Co Galway last year.

At Ennis District Court, Eugene Scorr (22), Mill Road, Ennis, is accused of theft from coin boxes from eight churches across Co Clare and Co Galway between September 25th and November 4th last year. He is accused of taking €135 from the eight churches.

The case was adjourned to yesterday for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions. Garda Insp Tom Kennedy told the court yesterday he did not know why the DPP got involved as the charges were summary matters.

The case is to be heard in the District Court. Judge Patrick Durcan adjourned all cases to May 16th and remanded Mr Scorr on bail to reappear before Ennis District Court on that date.
