The Murphy's 41st Cork Film Festival closed last night with the award for Best International Short Film, with a cash prize of 5,000 ecus, going to an English contemporary drama, Was She There, directed by Annie Griffin.

The winner in the Best European Short category, also worth 5,000 ecus, was the animated film Quest by German film maker Tyron Montgomery. The best Irish Short Film Award, worth £1,000, went to Dublin director Stephen Burke for his film 81, set in Belfast at the time of the 1981 hunger strike.
