Anti-racism campaigners last night picketed the Belgian embassy in Dublin in protest at the death of a Nigerian asylum-seeker who died under restraint as she was being deported from Brussels to west Africa. In a letter to the Belgian ambassador, the Anti-Racism Campaign criticised that government's handling of the asylum issue and called for an end to all deportations from Belgium and Ireland.

The death on Tuesday last week of Semira Adamu (20) has unleashed a political storm in Belgium, prompting the resignation of the interior minister and deputy prime minister, Mr Louis Tobback.
