A Belfast pensioner has died after being trapped under a bus.

A Belfast pensioner has died after being trapped under a bus.

The 85-year-old woman and her husband were trying to cross Great Victoria Street in Belfast city centre at around 5 p.m. yesterday when they were struck by the vehicle.

The woman's husband was knocked on to a footpath, suffering minor injuries, but she was caught underneath the bus.

Fire crews freed the woman, but she died after being taken to the city's Royal Victoria Hospital.

The victim's identity has not yet been released. Police today appealed for witnesses.
