An elderly pedestrian has died after being hit by a truck near Castlebar, Co Mayo.
She has been named locally as Kate Kelly, a single woman in her 80s, from Ballyheane, Castlebar. Ms Kelly was walking on the N84 Ballinrobe to Castlebar shortly after 1pm when she was struck by the truck in the townland of Aughadrinagh, about two miles from Castlebar.
Weather conditions were poor at the time with extremely heavy rain.
Gardaí at Castlebar, reachable at 094-902222, are appealing for witnesses.
