An elderly woman suffered a broken rib and head injury after she was attacked during a robbery in Co Tyrone.

In the attack at the Killyclogher Road at around 11pm yesterday, the victim, in her late 70s, was in bed at her Mountfield home when three masked men burst in and tied her up with scarves and demanded money.

She went to the hall when she heard the intruders, was hit with the stick, and dragged into a bedroom and bound while the property was ransacked.

The robbers are thought to have parked a car outside her home.

Elsewhere, a cash van was robbed at knifepoint this morning outside a south Belfast bank. It was making a delivery to the First Trust on the Ormeau Road when staff were attacked.

The assailant snatched a money box and ran off. Neither of the security guards are believed to have been hurt.
