Eight PSNI officers were injured in east Belfast last night in the latest of a series of violent attacks linked to protests over the decision by Belfast City Council to restrict the flying of the Union Flag over City Hall.

Police came under attack from missiles and petrol bombs from a crowd of approximately 100 people. One officer required hospital treatment, but was later released.

A road was blocked in the Templemore Avenue area of the city after a car was set on fire.

Police have made two arrests.
