Second-level students will meet in Portlaoise from this Thursday to Sunday, as part of an initiative by Horizon, the organisation that aims to build friendship between students in schools throughout Ireland. About 400 students will be taking part in the event, which is funded by the EU Special Programme for Peace and Reconciliation. Horizon dates from 1993 when pupils from Hunterhouse in Belfast and Alexandra College in Dublin joined forces to become friends.
