...but no TV plaudits

Dear Editor,

Dear Editor,

I read your report of the disgraceful showing of the TCD team on Challenging Times. I wrote to Provost Mitchell about two years ago when the Trinity team also made an exhibition of themselves.

I also at the time complained at the raffish appearance of the team - they were not even clean-looking.

As an old grandmother, who was told 70 years ago to run past Trinity College, as the Devil resided there, I regret the lack of dignity and knowledge shown by the present-day students. As a humble outsider, we respected the lucky students of Trinity and read of the wonderful, erudite and world-renowned past students.

Is it possible that this ignorance and general sloppiness and bad manners on the college site is as a result of the first-ever Catholic Provost? May God forgive me, but I turned off the TV as I could not look at the greatest seat of learning, at one time, in these islands, being humiliated by the students from a relatively new, remote regional college.

Co Cavan.
