Members of the European Parliament have criticised the Council of Ministers about the lack of progress on achieving a worldwide ban on antipersonnel mines. A cross party group of MEPs yesterday called on the council to adopt the Brussels Declaration, which envisages a treaty banning mines by the end of this year. The next stage of the diplomatic process takes place at an international conference in Brussels later this month.
