COPENHAGEN – Danish prime minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen yesterday called a parliamentary election for September 15th, paving the way for a campaign that will focus on reviving a recession-bound economy.

Opinion polls over the past year have shown Mr Rasmussen is likely to face a tough challenge from the Social Democrat-led opposition, which hopes to regain power after a 10-year break.

Mr Rasmussen has been prime minister since April 2009, heading a centre-right minority coalition government with the Conservatives. – (Reuters)
