The European Commission may force Allied Irish Banks to sell Polish unit Bank Zachodni WBK SA, as well as stakes in M&T Bank of the United States and the UK’s First Trust Bank, a Polish newspaper reported.

AIB may have to sell the subsidiaries if it gets public assistance and the Commission follows the precedent set by its treatment of ING Groep NV, Gazeta Wyborczasaid.

The EU’s executive arm will present this month the terms of approving aid for the Irish bank, the newspaper said.
