BERLIN Six former East German leaders on trial for Berlin Wall killings told a court yesterday they should not be charged in united Germany for their actions as rulers of the communist state.

Mr Egon Krenz, East Germany's last hardline leader, and five other members of the old Politburo sought a halt to their trial for manslaughter over the deaths of people trying to flee to the West during the Cold War.
