Presenter Eamon Keane has quit his lunchtime show on Newstalk.

Presenter Eamon Keane has quit his lunchtime show on Newstalk.

In a statement, the radio station said: "Newstalk would like to confirm that Eamon Keane will no longer be presenting the Lunchtime Show  as he has tendered his resignation to the station this week.

"Newstalk wish Eamon the best with his future career and would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his valuable contribution to the station."

Mr Keane’s profile has been removed from the station’s website.

There had been speculation Mr Keane may return to RTÉ radio. However, a spokesman for RTÉ radio said it is not planning any announcements with regard to new presenters over the next while”.

The number of people tuning in to Lunchtime with Eamon Keane grew by 15 per cent to 68,000 this year, an increase of 9,000 , according to JNLR results released in February.
