Dundalk Football Club yesterday lost its High Court attempt to stop Kilkenny City taking part in a play-off promotion match against Waterford in the Eircom League.

Kilkenny finished third in the first division with Dundalk fourth. The team finishing third plays the side third from bottom in the premier division for a place in next season's premier division.

Dundalk argued Kilkenny should not have been allowed to replay a match against Limerick FC last month. It was claimed that Kilkenny had included a player who was not eligible to play when the club first met Limerick in November. Kilkenny won but the league later deducted three points. Kilkenny then issued legal proceedings. Mr Justice Finnegan dismissed Dundalk's claim.
