Dublin took first place, along with Oslo and Paris, in a list of cities that set the agenda in listening to new music.

The research was carried out by a team of academics at University College Dublin, led by Prof Pádraig Cunningham, who analysed new music listening habits on Last.fm, a pop-music website with millions of users worldwide. They looked at which "leader" cities adopted new music most quickly and set listening trends for other "lagging" cities.

Dublin, Oslo and Paris were found to be the most influential adopters of new music, in that new acts listened to by people in these cities were then picked up by those in other cities. In North America the lead cities were Montreal and Atlanta.
