Up to 23 residents of an apartment complex in the Sandyford area of south Dublin were evacuated earlier today after high winds blew the roofs off two buildings.

The incident happened at the Sandyford View apartments shortly before 11.30am.

Although no one was injured, extensive damage was caused to the two apartment blocks. Several cars, which were parked nearby, were also damaged by falling debris.

Gardai and several units of the Dublin Fire Brigade attended the scene and have now sealed-off the area.

One local resident told The Irish Timesher daughter was one of those who had been evacuated from two buildings at Sandyford View at about midday.

"It was the entire roof of the two buildings," she said.
