A DUBLIN-based chef and a Dublin restaurant have been named chef and restaurant of the year respectively by Food and Winemagazine.

The all-Ireland awards were announced in the Mansion House yesterday. Sunil Ghai, executive chef of the Ananda restaurant in Dundrum Town Centre was named chef of the year while Chapter One in the city centre was named restaurant of the year.

Also commended were L’Ecrivain and Pearl Brasserie, in Dublin, and the Tannery, Co Waterford, in the best restaurant category, and Paul Flynn of the Tannery and Garrett Byrne of Campagne, in Kilkenny city, in the best chef category.

The regional best restaurant winners were: in Ulster, the MacNean House and Restaurant, Blacklion, Co Cavan; in Munster, the Tannery, Co Waterford; in Leinster (excluding Dublin), Campagne, Kilkenny; in Connacht, the Pier Restaurant, the Ice House, Ballina, Co Mayo, and in Dublin, the Pearl Brasserie, Dublin 2.

The Food and WineReaders' Choice Award went to KOH restaurant and cocktail lounge, Jervis Street, Dublin 1.
