More than 150 cancer-care professionals will meet in Dublin today for a major convention.

The Irish Cancer Society is hosting a conference on bowel and colo-rectal cancer, which kills 930 people in the State every year.

More than 1,820 new cases of the disease are diagnosed in Ireland annually.

Throughout the day, 15 expert speakers from the gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery arena will give keynote speeches on a range of topics including prevention, screening and early stage colo-rectal disease, colo-rectal cancer treatments, patient care issues, and innovations in colo-rectal cancer.

The conference will be held in the Stillorgan Park Hotel, Co Dublin, from 10am to 4pm.
