Dry weather hits salmon angling

Salmon anglers are having one of their worst seasons yet, following the long spell of dry weather. River levels are so low thousands of salmon cannot move upriver from the sea.

In Donegal, salmon shoals are waiting in estuaries at Glenties, Gweebarra and Gweedore for water levels to rise sufficiently to let them up stream.

According to Fishery Board sources this has led to a bonanza for poachers at the river mouths, but has adversely affected tourism traffic from angling clubs abroad.
