One of two men who died following a three car accident in Co Meath on Monday night, was a Belfast based percussionist who played with Van Morrison and Mary Black.

Mr Dave Earley (40) died in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, on Tuesday evening from head injuries. He was on his way to Dublin from Belfast when he was involved in the crash at Delvin Bridge, Gormanston near Balbriggan.

Mr Earley, who was originally from London, had lived in Northern Ireland for about 12 years. He was regarded as one of the finest drummers and percussionists in Ireland. He played with Sade, Van Morrison and in recent years was a regular member of the Mary Black band.

Another driver involved in the crash, Mr Michael McConnell (38), married, with three children from Drogheda, also died.
