Drugs worth up to €50,000 seized in Portlaoise

A man in his 20s is being questioned after gardaí seized drugs worth up to €50,000 in Portlaoise yesterday evening.

A man in his 20s is being questioned after gardaí seized drugs worth up to €50,000 in Portlaoise yesterday evening.

The drugs, ecstasy tablets and cocaine, were found in a car during a planned operation in the two at about 5pm, a Garda spokeswoman said. The man who was driving the car was arrested during the operation in the Woodgrove area.

Depending on the result of forensic analysis of the substances seized, the haul may have a street value of up to €50,000. The man is being held under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act at Portlaoise Garda Station and may be detained for up to seven days.
