Gardai patrolling a Dublin suburb found £15,000 worth of cannabis resin in a hackney car which had been hired in, Newbridge, Co Kildare. Garda Thomas Egan and Garda Noel Doolan noticed John McDonnell acting suspiciously at Moorefield Estate, Clondalkin, and decided to question him.
McDonnell (25), of Killaraig Close, Tallaght, was jailed for four years after he pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to having 1,409 grams of cannabis resin for sale or supply on October 9th, 1996. Garda Egan said McDonnell claimed he was carrying the drugs for someone else he would not name.
