A 66 year old British visitor who lost his life at the weekend when he fell into the River Blackwater, near Fermoy, Co Cork, was named last evening as Douglas Cooper from Kent.

Mr Cooper had been on a fishing trip with a number of friends when he got into difficulties last Sunday. Attempts to save him failed, and he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
