Driver dies after Dundalk crash

A motorist who was seriously injured earlier this week when gardaí tried to stop his car in Dundalk has died in hospital.

A motorist who was seriously injured earlier this week when gardaí tried to stop his car in Dundalk has died in hospital.

The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) named the victim as Daniel Connors (21) of Portadown, Co Armagh.

He crashed his car into a second vehicle on Wednesday afternoon when he tried to avoid gardaí, who wanted to interview him.

The incident was referred to the GSOC under section 102 of the Garda Siochana Act 2005.

Investigators confirmed Mr Connors died at approximately 12.30pm in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

The ombudsman’s office is continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
