A man was charged in Belfast yesterday with attempting to murder two men by running them down with his car. Mr Bernard Connolly (28), of Roden Pass, Belfast, was charged following an incident on January 16th when a car mounted the pavement at Upper Lisburn Road.

Two men in their early 20s were injured and taken to hospital. One has been discharged, but the other is still detained with fractures to his spine and skull. A detective told the magistrates' court Connolly replied "No" to the charges. He was remanded in custody. A bail application will be made in the High Court next Friday.
