The Director of Public Prosecutions should now reconsider files on long-standing sex abuse cases following the Supreme Court decision that lapse of time would not prejudice a defendant, Ms Liz O'Donnell, the Progressive Democrats' justice spokeswoman, said yesterday.

"Given that such offenders have a tendency to re offend, surely it is in the interest of the public as a whole that every possible effort is made to prosecute, even belated," she said.
