Down District Council has devised a series of events to mark the 1798 rebellion. A committee has prepared a "balanced, suitable, dignified and appropriate cross-community programme of events" to mark the 200th anniversary of the rising in Co Down.

Events include lectures, a specially commissioned community play, a ballad competition, the erection of 20 gable wall murals in Ballynahinch and the publication of new source material on the United Irishmen in Down and Antrim.
