Intercounty GAA player James McCartan is to appear in a Dublin court today over an incident in which Westmeath player Kenny Larkin sustained a serious injury during a challenge match between his county and Co Down.

Mr McCartan, a Down All-Ireland medallist, from Banbridge, Co Down, denies breaking the jaw of Westmeath full-back Kenny Larkin during the match.

The GAA has deferred disciplinary judgment on the case until the outcome of the criminal proceedings.
